How to Install McAfee 8

If you do not have an actual cd with a VirusScan install setup on it you need to download or acquire the the program from Crop Sciences or from the CITES webstore.

1. Downloads from the webstore are for the UIUC version of VirusScan 8 only.

- Go to the webstore and logon using your netid and password

- In the "Search by product titles" scroll to the heading "Antivirus - VirusScan 8.0i for Windows (no charge)" and then click Go

- Click Add to Cart

- Accept any conditions

- Click View Order Details

- Click Install Now and save to disk making a note of the file name and where it went (UIUC_VirusScan_80i.exe)

- For example, you might see a window that wants to know where you want to save this file to. The desktop or some download location is fine.

Alternatively, you might use this same file directly from a cd/zip disk/usb drive and you may copy the executable to some location on your computer.

2. If you already have McAfee installed on your computer and you don't want to lose existing settings, you need to download or access the Generic version of VirusScan 8 (which is in the folder \VirusScan8 on the department software cd).

3. Begin the installation by double clicking the UIUC installer or by choosing Setup.exe from the generic VirusScan folder.

If using the UIUC version, there may be a few moments while McAfee unpacks itself to a subdirectory and then recomposes itself.

So you need to reboot to get this last bit of protection started up.
If you are using the UIUC installer, you will see a black command window running for a bit
on the close of this last window. Allow it to close itself as it is finishing up some default configurations.

Set McAfee Auto-Updating:

1. Right-click on the McAfee icon in your taskbar and select Virus Scan Console

McAfee 8 Dialog

- the icon looks like this: McAfee 8 Dialog and will be located in the group of icons next to the time on the lower-right side of your screen.

You should get this screen with these entries. Note that if you have upgraded without using the campus version,
you may see some of the items in a different order or not at all. For example, a computer without a modem is not

going to need the DialupUpdate entry (and this can be deleted if you have no modem).
